Frequently asked questions

  • My go to technique is the more gentle the better. I want for you to fully surrender to your healing and let the needles work their magic. Communication is key and I will make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.

Your appointment will begin with the two of us going through your intake to provide me with clarification and allow for me to get more information on any pressing issues. No information is “TMI” I would like to hear everything you feel compelled to share.

Once we’ve gone through all that, I will feel your pulse and look at your tongue, then step out for you to get cozy. One of my favourite things about acupuncture is that you can keep a majority— if not all of your clothing on, often making for a much more comfortable experience.

Needles will be inserted into the body and depending on the treatment, the face as well. Each needle is individually packed, sterilized, and single use.

After all the needles have been inserted, depending on the treatment chosen, you’ll be left to lay for a specific amount of time before they are removed again.

Afterwards, take it easy for the rest of the day and be sure you drink lots of water. The only side effects you may notice are sleepiness and there’s always a potential of bruising, but I try to be extremely careful to avoid this.

The key to acupuncture is commitment, if you follow the recommendations given, you’ll see the best results. Recommendations given can include herbs, tea, dietary changes, and treatment frequency. Always be easy on yourself as to not overwhelm, just be sure you adjust your expectations based on what compliance you can offer. Any and all changes to better your wellbeing are positive.

  • Acupuncture is minimal invasive, so the side effects are minimal. Often you could feel tired afterwards, other times you may notice increased energy. There’s always a risk of bruising due to the wide range of vasculature in the body, but I try to be as careful as possible to avoid that. In general, you’ll need to have a few treatments closer together at the beginning to see noticeable changes in your health.

  • Needles in my face and/or body?? What’s that even supposed to do?

    Great question!

Acupuncture is an ancient medicine that has been practiced for centuries. Acupuncture is minimally invasive, and an extremely relaxing way to heal from the inside out (but I mean, I’m biased).

The body has 12 main meridians, along with many more, that are unseen to the eye. Every meridian has it’s own set number of points and each point has a variety functions they perform within the body. These points are used to give the body little signals to send it in the right direction of healing itself. The best part about acupuncture is that it’s self regulating; meaning I can’t “force” your body to do anything, I’m simply trying to nudge it in the right direction, and your body will do with that what it wants.

With cosmetic acupuncture in particular, the needles inserted into the face are causing micro-traumas, which the body responds to by increasing blood circulation to the area resulting in increased collagen to the area therefore promoting healing. All of this can be beneficial in preventing/lessening the looks of fine lines/wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, etc. My cosmetic acupuncture treatments are paired with traditional acupuncture therefore giving the ability to treat your skin from the inside-out and giving the opportunity for me to treat other issues rather than just focus on your skin solely.

Our goal with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is to aid the body back to homeostasis so it can then perform to the best of it’s ability and to support the mind and body as an entirety.

  • My favorite way to describe this treatment is as a “reverse massage.” Rather than pushing to break up fascia and muscle tightness, we pull on the muscles using glass cups. The flame doesn’t come anywhere near the body; it’s just briefly put inside the cup before its placed on the body to allow a suction to form. Fire cupping is great for overall muscle tightness, especially the type of pain that feels better with movement or stretching. After a treatment you’ll often have bruises left behind that should go away in the upcoming days/weeks.
